Oki Electric Industry is said to have scheduled the mass production of driver ICs for OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels toward the end of 2004. The driver ICs will support 262,000-color panels, compared to driver ICs produced by Korean and Taiwanese competitors, which primarily support 4,000-color displays.

 

The company currently is providing samples of driver ICs for mobile phone main displays and sub displays. Prices are three times the average cost of driver IC for LCD panels at present, which the company aims to lower through such mass production.
